Measuring curtains
For curtains you don't measure the window itself, but where the rail goes and the drop you want. The rail is always included and as wide as the curtain.
Curtain on a rail
Curtain on a rail
(ceiling or wall)
The rail goes on the ceiling or on the wall above the window. Let the curtain extend past the window on both sides — no light leaks and the glass stays clear when the curtain is open.
Window width (outside of the frame)
Measure the width of the window frame, outside to outside. Add 15 cm on both sides: that is the width of your curtain and rail. Already have a rail? Enter the length of that rail instead.
How should the curtain fall?
Height from ceiling / rail to the floor
Measure from the ceiling (or the underside of the rail) to the floor in 3 places: left, middle and right. Floors and ceilings are rarely perfectly level — use the smallest measurement. Then choose how the curtain should fall.
Use the SMALLEST measurement.
- Width and height only set the size. We calculate the amount of fabric (pleat fullness) ourselves.
- Measure only after floor and ceiling are finished — a new floor changes the height.
Two curtains or one?
For a pair (left and right) enter the total width; we split it over the two panels. A single curtain draws to one side.
Unsure about fabric or size?
With our fabric consultation at home we bring the samples and measure on the spot.
