Measuring fly screens

Window screens and pleated screen doors are measured the same way. Inside the recess the screen fits exactly in the frame; outside, it goes in front of it.

Inside width of the frame

Measure the inside width of the frame in 3 places: top, middle and bottom. Enter the smallest.

Use the SMALLEST measurement.

Inside height of the frame

Measure the inside height in 3 places: left, middle and right. Enter the smallest — the screen must fit everywhere.

Window or door?

For a screen door, measure the height from the threshold (or floor) to the top of the door opening. Watch out for protruding handles and hinges.

Entering the outside size for inside the recess
Measure the inside size of the frame.
Forgetting protruding hardware
Check handles, hinges and windowsills before you order.
